DMACK Celebrates First Cross Country Podium With New Tyre

DMACK’s all-new cross country tyre made a wonderful winter debut when Martin Prokop used it in studded form to finish second on Baja Russia yesterday – opening round of the FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies.

Remarkably, the new X-Raid Surfer tyre claimed a podium on its competition debut, also notching up DMACK’s first ever top-three result in the specialist discipline of cross country.

In addition to it being the first run-out for the new product, it was also being used in studded form – equipped with nearly 600 metal pins to bite into the frozen roads of the Northern Forest Rally close to Russia’s border with Finland.

Czech pilot Prokop, driving a Ford F150 Evo, was beaten only by current world champion Nasser Al Attiyah after the three-day event. Prokop holds second in the championship before the next round, held in completely different conditions in the deserts of Dubai.

The new X-Raid Surfer has been specifically designed for long-distance competitive stages, is available in two compounds and has a construction reinforced with Kevlar to improve strength and puncture resistance.

DMACK was also present at round two of the FIA World Rally Championship, where competitors at Rally Sweden used the upgraded DMG-ICE2 studded gravel tyre. Swede Fredrik Ahlin had been setting solid times before retiring with a broken radiator and reigning Junior WRC champion Nil Solans finished tenth in RC2 after improving well on his first attempt at the snowy stages.

Dick Cormack, DMACK managing director, said: “Our strategy this year was to expand our commercial operations, move into other disciplines and extend our product range. We’ve made an exceptional transition into the World Cross Country Cup, scoring a podium with a new tyre that’s fresh out of the factory. We’ve got a few tests planned ahead of the next round in Dubai, but congratulations to Martin for a fantastic result in Russia.”
