Drivers using DMACK tyres posted a number of solid performances on the treacherous Rallye Monte Carlo as the company’s upgraded winter tyres delivered some impressive improvements from 2017. DMACK supplied drivers across a number of classes including WRC, R5 and, for the first time, RGT.

Pick of the crop was Swiss driver Olivier Burri who powered his Skoda Fabia R5 to a podium place in the RC2 category for R5 machinery. Consistently at the front of the R5 pack all weekend, he finished 12th overall, third in RC2 and ahead of all but the WRC2 winner.

Italian Manuel Villa tackled the tough opening round of the FIA World Rally Championship in a Ford Fiesta WRC and finished 16th overall after a consistent performance across the wintery weekend.

Countryman Andrea Nucita set a stunning fourth fastest time on Saturday morning’s snowy stage nine, beating many WRC drivers. However, after holding a strong lead in the RGT category, he retired his Fiat 124 Abarth with electrical problems later in the day.

Competitors primarily used the DMT-RC22 asphalt tyre in both soft S6+ and extra soft XS6+ compounds, but also bolted on the studded DMT-ICE2 winter tyre for the ice and snow-covered stages during Saturday. Both tyres had benefitted from design upgrades to boost performance from last season.

Dick Cormack, DMACK managing director, said: “Our strategy for 2018 is to focus on developing our customer base in WRC and Monte certainly started the season off well. With a diverse range of competitors across a number of classes, our products demonstrated just how well suited they are to all car groups.

“Last year we scored three stage wins, two of which were on snow, so it was fantastic to see another top-four overall time this year again. Well done to Olivier Burri for a fantastic podium in R5, ahead of nearly all the WRC2 runners.”
